NUST Gears Up for Shell Eco-Marathon

We are proud to announce that, for the very first time, a team of students from NUST Islamabad have been selected for the internationally renowned Shell Ecomarathon. For those of you who don’t know, Shell Ecomarathon (SEM) is an international event sponsored by Shell, that invites student teams from all over the world to build their own vehicles and race them. The race, however, is not one of speed. The Shell Ecomarathon is essentially an energy efficiency driving challenge, which means that each team is evaluated upon how far its vehicle can travel consuming one litre of fuel. Ultimately, the team with the most fuel efficient car takes home the prize.
The SEM is held thrice every year in Asia, Europe, and the Americas, and as many as 150 teams from all over the world participate in it. This year, for the first time, students from NUST, Islamabad have formed a team that is ready to represent Pakistan in this much-anticipated challenge. Their team is called the NUST Ecomotive, and they will be participating in the SEM, which is being held this summer in France.
During a discussion with the team members, we were told that they had been planning to take this initiative for quite some time, but nothing was able to materialize until earlier this year, because projects like these require a significant amount of time and money, both of which were limited for these striving young engineers. However, after many setbacks, and a lot of hard work, the team finally managed to build their very own vehicle that is to compete in the marathon, complete with an aluminium chassis, and an ultra-light, robust carbon fiber body. Some other features of the car include a dead man’s switch, a collision avoidance system, and an Eco-assist system. To enhance the car aesthetically, team NUST Ecomotive got the car painted in the traditional Pakistani truck art, which is the most distinctive feature of the little vehicle, making it stand out beautifully.
The team also consists of a handful of motivated individuals, who are on the hunt for sponsors to provide the necessary funds for their journey. We wish them the best of luck for this great endeavour  and hope that team NUST Ecomotive will make NUST proud by accomplishing what it has set out to achieve.
