The list of Top 10 Stars Wars Characters
The epic space-fantasy movie series, known as Stars Wars, portrays the daring escapades of it’s variety of characters, from aliens to Jedis to badass women in galaxies far away and long ago. The series has been deemed such a classic so as to garner appearances of characters and references in recent movie and tv franchises. With the announcement and trailer release of the newest movie: Rogue One, die-hard fans have taken to having marathons or reruns of their favourites. In the spirit of rejuvenation we embark upon a similar quest to acquaint ourselves with our most beloved characters of the series (bear with me if this does not include Luke Skywalker).
10) Poe Dameron aka The One We Prayed for Desperately to be Alive
Reasons to Adore: Human male star-fighter pilot and a total hunk, Poe made his appearance in the movies in The Force Awakens. At first presumed dead he shocked us all by his return and led the attack on the StarKiller Base firing the most destructive shots and flying like a pro. He is one half of the currently most shipped ship that is #PoeFinn and there are currently more than 3000 fanfics already up on Archive of Our Own so forgive me but I must go read some fanfiction.
Rad Dialogue: “No, no, no, no. Keep it. It suits you. You’re a good man, Finn.”
9) Princess Leia aka The Satire when Satire was not Allowed
Reasons to Adore: Later promoted to the ranks of General, Princess Leia Organa Solo (born Leia Amidala Skywalker and adopted by Queen Breha of Alderaan) is possibly the most badass female character of her era. Ever refusing to be a damsel in distress, she went on to become one of the greatest leaders of the Rebel Alliance. During different periods of her life she was a fair politician like her birth mother (the youngest senator ever for the Galactic Empire), daring revolutionary, and a skilled Jedi.
Rad Dialogue: “Why, you stuck up, half-witted, scruffy-looking Nerf herder.”
8) Rey aka The Strong Independent Woman
Reasons to Adore: What with all the theories revolving around the internet about this human scavenger’s origin story and lineage, surely we’ll find any reveal to be an obvious one. What you should really know about this one is that every girl around is envious of her ability to dodge bullets super gracefully and defeating Kylo Ren/Ben with her newfound lightsaber skills. Regardless Rey and Finn’s friendship is adorable and I forbid the makers to tarnish it by introducing any kind of a romance.
Rad Dialogue: “You will remove these restraints and leave this cell with the door open. And you’ll drop your weapon.”
7) Yoda aka The One To Go To When All Hope is Lost
Reasons to Adore: From wacky sentence structure to wise revelations, Master Yoda has had us all under a spell. Or rather he uses the Power of the Force, for it is indeed strong with him. He was highly revered, served as the Grand Master to the Jedi Order and his prowess with lightsaber combat was well known. He participated in many a legendary battle what with a lifetime of almost 900 years and trained some of the most deadly Jedi. The last one he trained before he died and passed on the mantle to was Luke Skywalker.
Rad Dialogue: “Do… or do not. There is no try”
6) R2-D2 aka The Cutest Robot You’ll Ever Know
Reasons to Adore: R2-D2, was an R2 series droid, who worked with Padme Amidala, Anakin Skywalker and Luke Skywalker each and was extra imaginative in helping his friends and masters. He, many a times, ran solo rescue missions and was successful in providing aid at just the right moments. In the latest movie out, that is The Force Awakens, R2-D2 was not around for the most part but played a crucial role in helping Rey and the others find his Master Luke by furnishing the last piece of the map that led there.
Rad Dialogue: *Chirpy Indignant Beeps*
5) C-3PO aka The One Pointing Out The Obvious Ever-On
Reasons to Adore: The humanoid robot designed by young Anakin Skywalker for etiquette, always somehow ended up on the right side of the war. His knowledge of languages galore (7 million exactly) always would get his companions out of rather sticky situations. He also has a knack for saying the wrong things at the worst possible times. Through thick and thin, with the help of R2-D2, he prevailed and eventually went on to serve the Skywalkers and Han Solo.
Rad Dialogue: “If I told you half the things I’ve heard about this Jabba the Hutt, you’d probably short circuit.”
4) Han Solo aka The Savior
Reasons to Adore: When a rogue smuggler like Solo goes on to become the conflicted hero, we get classic Hollywood, we get our scoundrel cowboy and knight in shining armour all in one. Being Luke’s friend, Leia’s love interest, Rey and Finn’s guide, and Chewie’s best buddy, there is nothing we don’t love about this son of a gun. His demise although imminent, in The Force Awakens, was nonetheless shockingly vexating and we are still in mourning.
Rad Dialogue: “Look, I ain’t in this for your revolution, and I’m not in it for you, princess. I expect to be well paid. I’m in it for the money”
3) Chewbacca aka The Wookie you always want on your side
Reasons to Adore: If you need someone to fix something crucially wrong with your spaceship, Chewie is the Wookie you better call. Be careful though, not to get on his bad side! He has been Han Solo’s co-pilot and best friend for as long as we can remember and his was the real grief at Solo’s death. We have revelled with him, cried with him, often hoped for one of those choking hugs and are highly interested in finding out what is his path from here now that his partner is no longer around.
Rad Dialogue: “RAWRGWAWGGR.” – A New Hope
2) Darth Vader aka The Most Iconic Villain of All Time
Reasons to Adore: My own personal admiration for Vader sprang from his appearance in Toy Story after which I just had to marathon Star Wars for the first time. Once a grand Jedi falling prey to the seduction of the Dark Side, became a Sith. Despite the internet being adamant on bad acting for this role, no one can deny the chill his voice would send through us and the way we all begged to God for his redemption like no other. Whether it be young Anakin, lovestruck Anakin, struggling Anakin, or the very depressing Darth Vader himself, this character has shown us just how many perspectives there can be.
Rad Dialogue: “I am your father.”
1) Obi-Wan Kenobi aka The Originator of beautiful Wan Kenobi References
Reasons to Adore: He is not only our most favourite Jedi but also the one character we all have the greatest empathy for. The Padawan of the one who left us all too soon, Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan excelled at all things Jedi. He also was a perfect mentor to young Anakin Skywalker, trying his best to calm the boy’s dark urges. No matter what anyone says, I refuse to believe that he hadn’t done his best for Anakin. He was 57 years of age during the Battle of Yavin when he died at the hands of his Padawan while aiding the rescue of Leia from the First Death Star.
Rad Dialogue: “In my experience, there is no such thing as luck.”
May The Force Be With You, Dear Reader.
